web stats 404's for LL's ...

Talking with a buddy today we were discussing about 404 errors in montly stats for the typical LL or link directory and curious how others are doing with this...so question (and you can answer by PM'ing me if you want to keep it from public)...On average, how many LL and directory owners show 404 errors in their web stats and what would you consider normal?

Well, considering that many return links there days are fiarly complicated, and that many free site builders are using "customized" links, it is not unusual to see a fair number of 404s. In the past, if I have seen a particularly obvious typo, I will contact the source webmaster and ask them to fix the error. Often the same webmaster will copy returns to multiple sites, which can mean multiple sources of the error.

Keep an eye on it, and it won't get too far out of hand.
