Yeha, comcast sucks here in MI also, they rave about their fast 8Mb speed (or whatever it is) and it seems to be the same as it ever was. This company needs to go, prob is, comcast is just the company, I don't think they own the wires that goto your house or I could be wrong. The other prob is, in this day and age, these systems should be lighting speed and they are not yet.

I keep Earthlink ADSL as a backup but Comcast is pretty decent here.
Not as fast as they advertise but way faster then even the fastest ADSL that I can get here and over at my neighbor's place up the street he can't even get ADSL so he has no choice but Comcast internet. It costs way more then it should since I don't use Comcast for TV and instead use DirecTV but it did work out that I could get basic cable on one TV for just $1 more then internet alone so I have basic in my office in case the satellite goes out like in a bad storm. Comcast did go out for over three weeks in the last hurricane but so did my electric and many people lost their phone lines too but I was lucky that my ADSL did keep on working. I became the WiFi hotspot in my neighborhood after the last hurricane. At one time I had Bellsouth ADSL, that really sucked slimly donkey balls. |

See, what Cleo failed to mention is that she is signed up with these companies specifically for hurricane produced revenue.

Cleo, I think the board owners wouldn't mind if you posted your referral link to your cosmetic surgeon. Although, I think you should go for PPS rather than revshare with that surgeon. I have a feeling your conversion from trial to full might be a little low.

I've used Comcast for years in different locations because they've generally been the only option. They could be a lot worse.
I've had service calls and the guys that come out don't know squat about connectivity but if you walk them through the issue and allow them to come to the conclusion that you want you'll get fixed up and things should work well for years. I have 8mbs down and 784k up. I'd much rather have 1/2 the down and 4mbs up. That's my biggest complaint. |

well just an update on this. I finnally got some speed. Not much better but better. After hitting the roof again, the supervisor told me I was on the lower BW plan. Which is just retarded. I said I wanted the higher one and he said I was on the "Special $20 per month program". After explaining I did not give a shit about the $20 program he put me on the higher plan and the speed increased. Man I'm lucky I called again cause I expected to pay $60 for the higher BW. Anyway just a nightmare with this garbage company.

Trying is the first step towards failure

Where I live I had to give them the heave-ho. They buy up lots of other networks and smaller companies and never, ever upgrade any existing wiring or hardware on the acquisitions. My connection would drop out for a few seconds, several times an hour, booting me out of chats, screwing up my FTP work, etc. Despite all their efforts they never were able to troubleshoot or fix it - then a systems admin/network tech friend of mine eplained that in my part of the city, that's just how it is with Comcast, and he had other clients in my area with the same problems.
Bigger ain't better in their case, I tell ya. |

All these companies suck while they grow without upgrading their equipment. For years, I paid time warner about $600/month for their super fast Business Class hook up. When I moved here, I decided to just get the basic cable modem. I don't notice a difference except the savings of $570/month

Well, the Comcast upgrade has hit New Jersey they are now running at about dial-up speed if at alll! IF the phone company had any "smarts" they could put these assholes out of business. I already have fiber run to the house from Verizon, if they had their shit together they would jump all over this. |shocking|

I live in Toms River. Years ago, AT&T wanted to supply cable TV via the phone lines and made the local phone company (Bell Atlantic) run fiber to every house in town.
The deal never happened but I have a bundle of dark fiber run to the house. Only one strand is now being used for my phone service. The amount of bandwidth of all this dark fiber is nuts. Who knows, in the early nineties a 2gig drive was more then you could fill in a lifetime and cell phones were the size of bricks. |

WOW. I live in TR right off 37 and Lakehurst. I checked with Verizon and fiber is not comming here for at least a year. I aksed the next door neighbors if fiber might have been run in the neighborhood and was told no. Man that sucks.

Surprisingly America lags well behind most European countries with Internet connections Stuveltje. There are far fewer people connected in America, and of those who are, far less have broadband availability. No idea why, since America invented the damn thing.

The problem is there is a monopoly on broadband. By law it's not a monopoly but it's set up in such a way that anyone who want's to offer a broadband service in an area where you have cable companies set up already. They have to meet some crazy requirements in order to set up shop. Something like getting 75% of the people in the town to sign a paper stating they would use your company. You also have to prove you can provide the service. Because of this cable broadband companies now have a lock on the service for differant towns. You can only pick a satalite company if you want something other then cable tv. You can't pick another cable company cause they will not be in the area. As far as the internet goes this was a problem for New Jersey. The only people able to compete with the cable companies are the telco's IE Verizon. They meet the requirements but the cable companies tried to block them (by law) from offering TV service to peoples homes along with broadband. The law was finnally passed which allows them to provide this service. The law only passed a few months ago which is why if you live in Jersey you can search and find that the FISO service is rolling out rather fast now. The only reason the law passed was cause pepople are tired of the crappy service (most of which is comcast throughout the state). Either way I don't care if comcast ups their speeds and service. I will be going with the FISO when it's here.
