A naked eye comet in the eastern sky

Okay, I'll admit it, I'm a science freak.

Anyway, for those who like such things, and live away from city lights. there's a new comet, comet Bradfield, which will be visible before dawn in the eastern sky. It's been rainy here, so I haven't seen it yet, but it's supposedly surprisingly bright for a brand new comet. An easy view with binocs, and not bad as a naked eye comet, so they have been saying.

Here's some info:

I am keeping my fingers tightly crossed for clear weather here...

I love science, yeah I'm a geek girl, but I live in the city so I can barely see the stars.

I do visit this site a lot

Well it looks like one comet will be visible with ongoing ease through may. Starting about the 4th or 5th I guess it will be far enough from the setting sun in the western sky to get a glimpse.
Here is my favorite sky resource.

Another good geek link!

About 10:20 pm eastern time last night I was able to see the second comet of 2004, comet NEAT.

Cool.

It had been too cloudy here for the past week plus, but it cleared enough to see it. It's a small fuzzy "star" to the naked eye. but looks a bit more comet-like with binoculars. I couldn't recognize it as a comet until I found it with binocs, it was too undistinct to recognize as anything until I learned how to find it with lenses, but after I found it I could pick it out by eye alone.

It's not impressive, you would never notice it unless you were looking for it.

I gather there's a third comet coming up in late may and june.

I saw the space station buzz past jupiter a few days ago, like a bright star moving steadily across the sky, going from one end of the dome of the sky to the other in about 3 minutes. Also cool.

I was looking at it earlier tonight too..spotted it out a few nights ago with about the same results you describe. The best optics I have are a pair of 20x50 binocs but they get the job done! My wife mentioned about the space station..I`ll have to check out times for this area. I saw the shuttle few years ago out in California..went over as it was seperating from the mir space station with the soyez capsule in between..very very cool to see!

Well, it's been dreary and cloudy here, I only got the one good look at comet NEAT.

Robbo, did you actually see multiple points of light with the shuttle seperation? Damn, that would have been cool.

What the world needs now is a really great blazing naked eye comet, ha ha ha.

LOL were slinging porn with the science guy!

Yeah seperate points of light just after they had seperated all moving different speeds..pretty wild to actually think about what I was seeing and that there were humans up there controling it!

NEAT is fading fast..was but a blob to me in the binocs. I`m ready to start fishing for the year. Building my ass off so I can try to buy a boat!
