Movie vs. Photo freesites (and other newb questions)
 

Does one tend to bring more traffic than the other?
So far, I've been sticking with photos, but I was looking through some of the LOR listings and it seems like most of the listings are movie sites.

I actually did my first site about a month ago, but haven't had much time to devote to it, so I've just submitted my 4th freesite as of yesterday.
So far, with the first 3 sites being accepted and listed at most of the sites I submitted to, including LOR and a number of the other big ones, I'm getting about 300 uniques a day.
Does that seem like a reasonable amount of traffic so far?

About 15% of those uniques are resulting in a click to my sponsor.

Still no sales yet.

Sounds like there are some mixed opinions.
To me, it makes perfect sense to give free pictures, then upsell the videos. But that happens after a surfer is already on my site. My concern is whether a lot of surfers are skipping over the free photo sites and just visiting the free video sites when they are browsing LOR or other LL's.

I get much less traffic from picture sites. When I stopped doing pictures and started doing movies, I noticed a big jump in traffic. Of course traffic is traffic and might not convert...but I have found in the 1-1/2 years or so I've been doing this that my movie sites convert better, too.

During a recent OTB, MrMaryLou stated that pic surfers and video surfers are two entirely different types of surfers. Maybe if he has the time he could chime in here and explain the differences between the two and the best way to market to each.

I would think that using video clips to promote video sites is fairly obvious.

Since I personally prefer videos, I don't really understand the expectations of a pic surfer. What's the allure of pics only?

I never paid much attention to the amount of traffic pic sites vs movie sites but I do know my sales off gallery pages went way up since I started using movies.

That's what I was wondering. I know that when I've been porn surfing, I've always tried to find the videos. I remember visiting Persian Kitty years ago and I'm not sure if it's still the same, but they had a listing of the number of pics and video (mpg, avi, etc.) next to each site name and description. When I used to browse there, I would usually just skim through the list looking for sites with videos and skipping most of the pictures only sites.

What about a mix: movies + pics in one freesite?

I tried this approach some time ago, and the rejection rate was just too high, so I don't bother anymore. I do wish more list allowed them, however.

My theory on this has been this, maybe its a bit outdated now since I assume most people have high speed internet these days, but it used to probably be more true than it is now, but I'm sure it still holds true to some extent.

Everyone wants movies, but only broadband surfers can get movies in a reasonable manner. Probably pic surfers are those that are still on dial up. And if the poor bastard cant afford high speed he probably cant afford to buy a membership anyways. Of course I'm sure there are those that still prefer pics, but I'm guessing the vast majority are watching movies if they have the means.

Anyways, thats my probably outdated theory.

I do mostly movie galleries these days but that is mostly because they are quick and easy to do and bandwidth is cheap.

For some odd reason, I'm really not sure why, this test page I put up to get some feedback on using JW Player has generated a ton of sales from the logo that is linked at the top. I only posted this on a few boards to get some feedback and it was not submitted anyplace. I didn't even intentionally link the logo, it was just some html that I had reused from the mailings I do for FoxyAngel.

When I switched over to movie galleries, I saw my sales go up as well. And with with size of the clips being pretty reasonable in size and the quality good it seems to work well.

Well, I guess those one or two have signed up over and over again to my picture only avs sites, lol. My most popular sites have zero movies.

I think it all boils down to do you have the micro niche they want?

I always hear that movie sites convert much better then picture sites but from my own experience I'd have to say it doesn't matter considering that most my sales are made on my index and main pages.If your free site is any good,the surfer won't be looking at your gallery content becauase he's already going to be at your sponsors pay site.|thumb

Since I posted earlier in this thread, I've had several sign-ups from....guess what...picture sites! Ya just never know.

Speaking just as a perv that likes both pics and movies,I would say it all depends on what niche I'm in the mood for.

Movies are good if I want to see a chick get banged or get a facial and pics are the way to go if I just feel like looking at some hot teens pussy or ass.Also,I love really large crisp hi res images like ATK stuff etc.where her pussy is practically in your face.If I was forced to join a site for pics alone,picture quality would be the first thing I would take into consideration.

I guess would sum it up by saying that pics are good for solo amateur,solo teen/babe and exclusive girl type sites.Hopefully my perverted perspective helped clear things up a bit.
