Are blogs just another flavor of the month(s)?

New is cool - been there done that.
As a surfer, I see blogging turned into splogging. (adult anyway)

Original blogs are a bitch to keep updated, similar to a LL.
Since the SE's have no control over what you link to, or promote, they can't be too far behind in eliminating all the crap, and ban them altogether. (much like LL banning a series IP's in one click)

Is the guy/gal with 500 domains, a custom program, and auto pinging the planet from some different domain every 10 seconds worth being listed on an SE? (the competition)

I'm not saying the sky is falling. Just trying to judge a time/effort vs payoff for the coming years question. Notice I said Years, not next 6 months.

Just wondering everyone's thoughts.
