there are some rather large players in the industry suporting .xxx as long as the .com owners get first dibs on thier according .xxx domains which is never gonna happen imo... there are sites offering pre-registry for .xxx but they offer no guarantee that you will get the domain you want and have non-refundable fees involved..... check out sex.com and scroll to the bottom of the page, they seem to have the inside track on some rather nice .xxx domains

Who are these "large players" in the industry that are supporting the xxx thing - I have yet to see one person that I know to be heavily involved in this biz support it - for that matter the only people I have seen support it are the guy that had the brilliant idea to push it in the first place to make a killing for his own biz and a few registrars that jumped on board when they saw how much they could make.

No matter how good you are at something, there's always about a million people better than you

Hey Linkster,

I know CyberNet Entertainment has been a long time supporter of .xxx but they seem to be stepping back some now.

Here's a quote from their web site...
Quote:
The .XXX Top Level Domain
CyberNet Entertainment believes in the responsible behaviour of adult website operators and in giving web surfers a fool-proof way to block material intended for consenting adult viewers only. We believe the establishement of the .xxx TLD is basically a good idea. However, news that the organizations pushing for its creation (IFORR and ICM) have purely financial or legislative stakes in the project has tempered our enthusiasm for the concept.
Regards,
SF

Smutferret - thanks - guess Ive got a sponsor to remove

Seems that us responsible WMs need to do the things we have been all along like using the pics label etc. And if the parents and orgs that really are wanting a way to do this - the .kids tld has been put off so many times its ridiculous

http://www.icann.org/tlds/report/kids4.html - note the comments in the opposition to the application:
"Another concern was that voluntary separation of content on the web could eventually turn into forced separation and restrictions on free speech"

Hmmm - seems like they just approved one that does exactly the same thing

added - just a little history - the .kids tld was recommended to congress in 2001 - and still sits there

Oh. I had no idea. That's an eye opener.

Lensman for one, he said he would support it if the .com owners got first dibs on the .xxx equivalent there was a big discussion about it on his board and some people seemed to agree with him
