Are blogs just another flavor of the month(s)?

I was reading Matt Cutts blog yesterday (Google Techie) he said that one of the big issues for 2007 was to sort out the spam blogs and people who run 100's of different ones with the same content. I expect some big changes with blogs for 2007 and that the genuine ones will stand up and be counted. I also believe (just my opinion) that adult hosted blogs such as thumb blogger could be penalised... Going off the subject he also mentioned how one 'spammer' had a website with over 50,000 pages, can you imagine that?
