If you're just now looking to check it out, my suggestion would be to start where I did with the first episode of the 9th Doctor (plus "Doctor Who Explained"), then go forward through the series with the 10th (David Tennant) and 11th (Matt Smith) Doctors to get ready for the Christmas broadcast when 11 will regenerate into the 12th Doctor.

I recently watched/listened while working to what netflix had from 63-89 but to be honest it was not even as close to enjoyable as the 9 thru 11th Dr's. Of course I am watching for the first time as a near 50 year old versus being a child full of amazement leaving fond memories. Thou I will say out of the early Dr's I like Tom Baker the best and having him in the 50th Special was kinda brilliant

The budget on the original run was ridiculously low, and the deadlines ridiculously short.

The new series has a much bigger budget, and a lot longer to film each episode. I did hear somewhere that nowadays the catering budget per episode is higher than the entire budget per episode in the old days.

Plus, of course, they use a lot of CGI effects that simply did not exist back then.

The thing that summed it up for me was that back then, if we wanted to see high budget effects, we had to watch US shows. A couple of weeks back I was watching "Marvel's Agents Of Shield" and caught myself thinking "Huh, the effects on this are nowhere near as good as the effects on Dr Who!"

Also, back then, it was aimed at kids, today they aim at an older audience.

I absolutely agree with you ecchi! Plus the shows were watched on TV screens smaller than our computers back then so they could get away with cheesy props seen on tiny blurry screens compared to what we watch shows on today.

To me it's kinda like watching early Star Trek or Batman TV shows. Take away the fond childhood memories and they really are corny crap compared to what we have available today so I prefer not to watch them now (except for the occasional nostalgia flashback) and just remember them as they were

I did really enjoy "An Adventure In Space And Time" about the making of the first Dr Who and the series.
