That which does not kill us, will try, try again.

I never was able to get into the original run of the series (1963-1989), but when the Doctor returned in 2005 it definitely caught my interest. The ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) was more my speed, and it probably helped that his new companion, Rose, was played by the very sexy Billie Piper (who also starred in Secret Diary of a Call Girl),
If you're just now looking to check it out, my suggestion would be to start where I did with the first episode of the 9th Doctor (plus "Doctor Who Explained"), then go forward through the series with the 10th (David Tennant) and 11th (Matt Smith) Doctors to get ready for the Christmas broadcast when 11 will regenerate into the 12th Doctor. It's not for everyone, so you may not like it after all, but if you do wind up getting hooked you'll have something besides fantasy football, hockey and GTA to post about. ![]() By the way, here's my favorite GTA comment: "The most important thing I learned from Grand Theft Auto is if you beat the whore after you are done you get most of your money back." -- pornopete ![]()

![]() I recently watched/listened while working to what netflix had from 63-89 but to be honest it was not even as close to enjoyable as the 9 thru 11th Dr's. Of course I am watching for the first time as a near 50 year old versus being a child full of amazement leaving fond memories. Thou I will say out of the early Dr's I like Tom Baker the best and having him in the 50th Special was kinda brilliant ![]() |

The new series has a much bigger budget, and a lot longer to film each episode. I did hear somewhere that nowadays the catering budget per episode is higher than the entire budget per episode in the old days. Plus, of course, they use a lot of CGI effects that simply did not exist back then. The thing that summed it up for me was that back then, if we wanted to see high budget effects, we had to watch US shows. A couple of weeks back I was watching "Marvel's Agents Of Shield" and caught myself thinking "Huh, the effects on this are nowhere near as good as the effects on Dr Who!" Also, back then, it was aimed at kids, today they aim at an older audience. |
