Wise man. I had a job that had some serious stress (and I mean serious, like every day when I went into work I did not know if I would go home in an ambulance). I stuck it out. The result - my blood pressure decided to go for a new world record, and I am still on pills for that.

Thank you all. I'm bit nervous but all should be ok today. Ecchi you are correct it's a simular job and my new wife can't stand it. About every other month you hear about someone blowing their head off or just hiting the doctor for mental something. Kind of happy but kind of scared. I have not, not had a job in over 12 years. BUt it will be nice to sleep in once and awhile. Jugg..

There was a point in my life that I was horrible job hopper. If even a little stressed or if I disliked who I was working for, quiting meant nothing. In my last couple of jobs, I said fuck it. I'm going to just go to work and perform at my pace and behave how I wish. I decided I'd be better off letting them fire me. I ended up leaving one for better money and the last one loved me. If it wasn't for their move to Mexico, they probably would have never of fired me. Damn them.

So will you now be a full time webmaster?

I remember when I quit my "real" job back in 1998 - that 1st day of working on nothing but porn was fantastic

Well It's done. I handed in the letter and they were not to happy to see my leave but heck thats life. Tomorrow is my last day for good. Just have to fill out the last of the paperwork and I'm out. Man 7 years for the government and the military really was the most stressful shit I ever had to do. But I had a choice. I was right on the edge of my leave now or stay forever time frame. If I stayed I would have to stay for 14 more years. As I would have had my 20 on both sides of the house and that meant two pentions at 65. But I could not tell you the stress. I did 3 funerals this past weekend and that in itself is hard as hell. To fold a Flag and then have to give it to a widow or mom is just fucking nuts. It looks like one thing on TV but I shit you not, its hard as hell to hold back tears and portray what the greaving expects from you as a soldier. Well you all now know what I used to do for a living. I don't think I will do full time webmastering, maybe part time. I was making 65k a year and cant see that comming from the net right away. I would like to build to that point but Im sure it will take time. At this point my brother gave me his old lawn cutting equipment and I think I'm just going to do that for a little while. I can pull a living with it at my own pace. But anyway enough of my rambling. Jugg free and out!!..

Congrats Juggernaut! We don't live to work, its not worth dying 20 years earlier from stress related illness to have an extra $20000 a year or whatever. I think mowing and yard work would be a breeze compared to your last job lol... it will feel like a holiday!

Punaniman is at a smaller crossroads right now. He is very jealous of me working at home and wants to join me. He hates his job and the clients etc. He just found a new job which he would enjoy more but it includes 1.5 hours travel a day blahhh. So today he is asking his current boss if he can stay on the same wage and have one day off a week That day will be spent working with me on some mainstream stuff and helping me with seo and programming for my sites.
He wouldve loved the other job as it involved big clients and travelling a bit but they werent offering him much more than he is on now and he is way overdue for a payrise. So this should be a good alternative.

I couldn't have handled that at all. Last Easter, my neighbor's nephew was killed in Iraq and that was one painful funeral. More sorrowful than any funeral that I've been to for my own family members thus far. I just stood there on the lawn of the national cemetary, holding my own little boy, and staring at that poor kid's parents. That really tore me apart. I think I nearly broke my son in half, I was holding him so tight.

When I was in the army, I was on funeral detail for a retired CSM. That was nothing. Very dry. Sad, but dry. But burying a young soldier who was just killed in combat is fucking horrible.

Now I understand what you were saying about your job being stressful.

You did the right thing Juggernaut. I just did the same thing, and I was very very stressed as well. I was working at a software company that treated their employees like slaves. You couldn't even take a piss without someone looking over your shoulder. You'll feel much better once you're in control of your life, regardless if that means less money for the short term. But it will take you a few weeks to lose that built-up stress. I wish you luck and no regrets.

And I'm not kidding about that taking a piss thing. A colleague of mine was on the crapper and a manager came into the bathroom looking for him. The idiot manager was busted his balls about work while he was crapping...lol.

Thank you to everyone being so supportive. I left the job yesterday around 11 am EST. I planned on staying the enter day but the current shit head in charge (An O3 = Captain) took away my Domain admin rights, so I was somewhat useless and powerless to do anything. I went into my section leader and explained to him the problem and that I was heading home. He asked me to stay for the rest of the day and I told him "Why? I am here to do security, monitoring, and help the end users along with 100 other things. Now I have just been turned into a useless body in a cube. I can't help anyone so I'm out." He was really cool and I will miss him greatly. He stated to me that this CPT is doing what the Taliban and insurgents could not do over the past 3 years, getting 1/2 the section to quit. I thought that was funny. Well I wish them luck as they will surly need it. I and another one of my friends have left, and to be honest, I'm not trying to pat myself on the back here but we both were the go to guys at that place. It's sad, but true that most of the government employees are hired on, who you know, not what you know. Heck when I 1st got there I was shocked to find all the router and switch OS were not updated for almost 3 years. When I reported a major security issue I was told to not worry about it. WHOH???? And their engineer was wondering why the network ran like shit. Anyway took most the day yesterday to contemplate life and where my next move would be. Funny the wife mentioned FLA. lol I think I put up a post last week asking about the adult business and that state. lol Well I'll decide soon but FLA might have just one more Adult Website owner as a tenant. Thanks for all your replies they really did help in a trying time. It was nice to see the support from so many I barely know, if at all. But when i got a little down I just read them and realized there are worse things that can happen in life, other then leaving a secure 20 year job and losing two pensions. I know the story sounds a little strange (IE Military and federal technician) well I was in the National Guard and a full time federal employee Mon - Fri. We were supporting IT in the states for soldiers overseas and for soldiers here with DOD. Its whats called a duel status job. I must remain in the military in order to hold my federal job. I had to wear a uniform to work every day even tho my job status gave me more powere and pull them most COL or GEN in the building. But it was crazy having to work that way. Anyway just wanted to say thanks guys... Jugg.
