You would think that being part Spanish and having a father that spoke Spanish that I would know it but I don't. On the school form where they ask why you are enrolling in classes I marked so that I could understand the local language.

Don't feel bad Cleo, there are others out there (like me, half Puerto Rican, dad's 100% and can speak it, I took 5 years of spanish in High School, and still can't speak it. . .) who feel your pain. I should take another intro class and re learn everything I used to know. (I couldn't speak it well, but I could read and write it flawlessly.)

Good Morning!

And Lord, we are especially thankful for nuclear power, the cleanest, safest
energy source there is. Except for solar, which is just a pipe dream

I am also part Puerto Rican. Took Spanish back in high school but had no use for it at the time and none of my friends at the time spoke it so I never learned it. I told Luna that she gets to help me learn Spanish in return for me teaching her how to write html. Not that Spanish is her native language, she is Brazilian, but she does speak Spanish fluently.

Good Morning! Off to a day of trying to stay cool. My daughter quit smoking a week ago, I thrilled that she did! But you talk about being in a foul mood...yikes. I know it's part of the process but damn it's not easy on the other people in the house.....

Jim sorry about your problem hope you slove that fast....

Have a great day all!

Shit, I forgot to say good morning. So, good morning.

When I was in Texas I fell in lust with a little Puerto Rican college freshman who was home on winter break. Her mother only ever spoke two words in English to me - Hi Mark - and I'm not so sure that you can consider saying one's name as speaking their language. Elsie, that little whore, would carry on long conversations with her mother in front of me, she speaking English while her mother ranted in Spanish. Typically, it doesn't make me uncomfortable to have people speaking a foreign tongue in front of me, but something about her mother's tone was very unnerving. The entire whopping two weeks that I 'dated' Elsie, I had wished that I knew only one sentence in Spanish. "Your daughter has a hairy cunt."

I feel you there. I took 5 years of french (and hated every second of it) and I can still count to 10........ maybe... just don't test me on it.

On the most part, we begin language training far too late and don't put enough emphasis on it. Foreign language classes should begin at the elementary level, not high school, while a chi|d's mind is the most elastic and is language learning mode. Language study should also be focused on conversational skills, not just the ability to read and spell, which is so often the case. My wife took both French and Spanish in high shoo|, as well as college. From what I can tell, she may not be able to order a glass of water. I took 2 years of German in high school (passed with a D+ ) and then studied it for 9 months straight, 8 hours a day. I can speak enough to get myself arrested at the very least.
