NO! Im not a female - but being a dragon, I do eat them.

I still remember loads of scenes from Vietnam - I think the one that stands out in my mind was the viet-cong boy officer in the street with a gun to his head as the bullet went through - it was in every newspaper back then and was just a little taste of what was really happening.
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/co..._COLLECTI.html It amazes me that there are so many Americans that just want to turn away from this thinking that if they dont see the real news they dont have to deal with it personally - well - having been there and done that to coin a phrase - its about time the US people got a taste of what really happens in war and maybe they would get off their apathetic asses and do something about it - just like all the vets and students did something about it in the late 60s. Its a shame watching all these sheep that call themselves reporters glossing over the facts with their little sound bytes - we lost "insert number of US soldiers blown into pieces today" but in local news there is still some college student missing in Aruba and we have 24 hour coverage on the ground there to make sure we have up to the minute coverage of the "alleged wrongdoers" being released from their jail in Aruba again" Give me a fucking break |

"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!"
I think that pretty much sums it up. People don't want to accept what war is. It's about killing other people... plain and simple. People can candy coat it all they want, but those photos and videos are exactly what happens! We all talked about the mis"Information Minister" in Iraq who denied the fact that Iraq was being invaded, even as you could see coalition forces marching in the background. Do we really want to be like that? Just deny the truth is out there! There are soldier and civilians who give their lives every day because of a bunch of morons! ![]()

The worst part of this is that with events occuring that were way worse that My Lai (just my opinion that this was where the population of the US finally had had enough - and a few soldiers got dinged for doing exactly what the administration and the generals told them to do) the American people still have the audacity to drive around in their SUVs with little ribbon magnets saying support the war ( and confusing the hell out of supporting the troops with the war itself) when they have no idea what is really going on. As far as Im concerned every little one of them needs to be shown every video and pic out there of what happens in a real war - till they puke their guts out - or start crying like half the soldiers I knew when they just couldnt handle it anymore.

Right on Linkster!! I forgot about that picture too.. but really we were treated nightly to kind grandfatherly Walter Cronkite telling us.. 237 casualities today and 572 wounded in action.
I heard the other day Senator McCain saying that the news shouldn't give the number of people who died or what action was taken in Iraq because we the public doesn't need to see it. you'd think McCain of all people would want the TRUTH known. |

I think we NEED to know how many people died both American and Iraq, how many people have been injured and how many homes have been destroyed. The country is pulling together to help Katrnia victims that have lost thier homes but does any here care about the Iraqi's that have lost everything becasue of this war? Do Americans even know? |

I would say that a statement like that from McCain would be very uncharateristic - he is outspoken when it comes to showing the dead soldiers - he was the one that wrote to Sinclair group during the presidential elections to lambast them for not airing "Fallen" on some of their affiliates where Niteline was showing pictures of dead soldiers and reading their names. McCain also supported showing the caskets in Dover back in 2004 when it was voted on in congress http://www.camerairaq.com/2004/05/caskets_photogr.html is the only link I could find where he actually spoke about it during the congressional debate. Of course his republican congress passed the bill making it law not to show the caskets in support of the prez.
He is one of the only republicans I respect as he has always supported the soldiers and keeps challenging the way we are reporting the war dead and injured (which btw is way under-reported based on the number of purple hearts given out for non-combat injuries - tens of thousands of soldiers are sitting in Vet hospitals back here in the US and their story isnt being told) |
