centered: why must all be centered? IMO, it mostly looks ugly - like an undesigned or uncomplete site

Centered elements look balanced, at the very least. If something is aligned to the right, it is obvious to all that it was done intentionally. When something is aligned to the left, it looks like the builder was lazy due to left-alignment being the default. If you have nothing to fill the space on the empty side of a table or cell, it will tend to look best centered.
