It probably won't change anything here but I'm sure it it will have an impact on those doing serious business in Europe.

No, most of us over here use .com too. And those who want a local TLD will still use their own country's extension (.co.uk, .co.fr, etc). Also most people in the EU hate the idea of being in the EU, and would never use .eu on principle.

The only use for the .eu extension is to allow more people to get the domain names they want.

There is probably some money to be made today from buying into .eu and flipping on forums or ebay. Had a look but was so time-comsuming gave up on it.
