When you think about it, the story is really fucking cruel - nobody likes Rudolph (including his father) because of his nose. Hermie is shunned because he wants to further his education & become a dentist. An island full of shitty toys no one wants. I was watching it last night too I had the exact same thought going thru my head. I have seen it 100's of times, but this is the first time I realized just how mean it is. Maybe having little ones myself has changed my perspective. The most brutal part I thought was when the fake nose popped off at the reindeer games and then Santa, FUCKING SANTA! tells Rudolph's dad that he oughta be ashamed of himself because of his son's nose.

Just a regular old boring day of work here for me.

Unfortunately the tv version of the story of Rudolph is not the original story crafted by a worker at Montgomery Wards for their Xmas pamphlet they gave out in the 30s - and all the brutalness and hate was added in the tv story - the real base story is much different
