If you want to read a good book about US torture policies check out Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine. It also mentions Canada's role in hashing out the "science" behind torture.

I can't wait till our conservatives are thrown out on their ass. They are probably working to rectify this "oversight" right now. They get hard ons standing next to the almighty Bush admin.

You're kidding right? It was a Liberal government that joined the war in Afghanistan. In terms of foreign policy that affects the U.S., the Canadian Government does whatever they are told to do. Liberal or Conservative doesn't matter. When it comes right down to it, us Canadians fear trade reprisals from the Americans above anything else. Sad, but that is the way it is.

That is the same reason why you'll never see pot de-criminalized in Canada. The Liberals have said they would do it for years but the fall out from the U.S. would be swift and unbearable. They know it. We know it.

(Yay! Someone who knows the difference between de-criminalization and blanket legalization... )

It seems as though the US is the bully in school... But we all figured that out when Bush got into office and decided we had to police the world.
