My preference would be to teach English or History to an array of unknown teens as they pass through my classroom. K-6 is for someone who really wants to deal with runny nose brats and deal with a slew of parental deficiencies. (One of the teachers I spoke to last night said that teaching young children is the very best birth control she's encountered.) I have a teenage daughter and an 8 year-old son and I have noticed that I have no problem interacting/communicating with my daughter's friends, yet I find every single elementary age child that has come in to my home to be a giant pain in the ass. If I had to teach at the elementary level, I'd either sit at my desk crying aloud, or I'd be forcefully removed from the school by men in white coats, but only after I punched a few parents.
