Safari & iPhone Hacked on First Day of Contest

"Apple's Safari browser got hacked on both Snow Leopard and the iPhone during the first day of the annual Pwn2Own contest, where security specialists can win the hardware they successfully attack. As CNet reports, security analyst Charlie Miller won $10,000 after remotely exploiting Safari on a MacBook Pro."

Yeah, but Windows users haven't been claiming for years that it's nearly hacker/virus proof.

But I'm kinda surprised at you posting a message that basically says "Apple is on the same level as Windows boxes"! ![]() |

Also the headline makes it look like all these browsers were hacked in one day but the reality is the hackers had months to refine their hacks for this event. I am curious if the Safari for the iPhone that was hacked was on an unlocked iPhone since there have been a few reports of unlocked iPhones being hacked. There are very few details about any of the hacks like if it was on a Mac running as an admin account or not. I have three Macs in my house, kitchen, den and living room that I run as non admin accounts so that people coming over to my house can use without being able to do any harm to them and so far, dispute stoned friends using them, nothing bad has ever happened to any of them. In any event other than in these proof of concept hacking events there hasn't been any real world issues and zero Mac viruses. |

That's really amazing. Yes, you are right hacker are more intelligent then others. It is something that whenever a new security is invented how to crack it is also got invented and they are always one step ahead from us. They made a handsome money out of it.

Spoke to a top security expert and he said every piece of software can be hacked. The only solution is solid code that has been overly checked for errors.
