Unhappy How widespread is piracy in the Net now?

I stumbled onto this website and it takes stock of how bad (or good) things are getting.

Quote:
When it comes to statistical data regarding content piracy, the complexity of the data and its abundance is utterly mind boggling. The data channels are scattered across geographical borders and scientific dimensions. The nature of matter effects the data gathering process resulting in datasets with chaotic orders and unclean results sets.

Despite all this it is of grave importance to understand the trends and fashions behind the content piracy as a thriving organism and understand it better. Furthermore appreciation of statical of data regarding content piracy can be huge advantage in a business intelligence point of view.

At Degban we put a great effort into analysis of statistical data gathered by our servers and present our findings to our clients free of any charge. Here you can get a sneak peek at the statical data gathered every second by our servers and get an idea of when and where piracy is happening on this globe. This section is regularly and autocratically kept up to date.

So RS is about 30% according to those charts, and I just saw a $$$ amount regarding the Perfect10 lawsuit saying that RS does $80 million/year in member/advertising revenue from other peoples copyright.

The thing that the surfers don't seem to understand is why would businesses spend the money making the content if they aren't making a profit back.

Maybe we as an online industry(not just adult) need to spend more effort educating surfers about how business works.

If Avatar didn't make a gadzillion dollars, do you really think that they would go spend $250 million more per episode to make additional movies.

Tell him the free porn on the net is like the free bread at restaurants. Nice, but not the main meal.

Piracy is bad. A few years ago I made about $6k a month selling just a few php software packages. Now, I have to hunt for freelance work to make ends meet and people expect quality work for pennies on the dollar. Open source did a lot of damage too.

Wouldn't work. Most people "understand", they just don't "care". They simply want it for free and if we all go bankrupt, well there is already more porn available than any human can look at in a lifetime, so why worry if no one produces it anymore?
