Last Day Of March [Earth Hour] ... (03/31/2012)

Good morning. March has ended. That was quick!

I was studying last night how to change a Joomla 1.0 site to a Joomla 2.5 site. Man, it's a lot of work. Likely, 1-2 days effort. I will have to plan for that later in the week.

My brother wants me to visit a sick, old uncle today so that is what I will be doing this afternoon. Later, I will be playing the card game Eurchre in the dark to celebrate Earth Hour. Personally, I think it is bullshit because most people are unwilling to make real sacrifice in their lives to live green. None-the-less, my wife will be getting the candles out.

Have a great day whatever you decide to do.

which probably put out more CO2 than the electricity you're not using... I've actually been toying with reducing electric use at the home for the last month and documenting some of the theories so I can build a device to measure, notify and possibly control a few things. With the price of Arduinos down to $40, RaspberryPi down to $30, it is pretty inexpensive to make a small embedded computer to handle certain things without tossing a few hundred dollar computer at it.

Other than that, a bit more code on the agenda for today.

I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

RaspberryPi is exciting. I can't wait to get one.

In Ontario, the Government is eliminating all coal powered plants. The result is that now 50% of our power comes from nuclear plants with the remainder natural gas, hydro and newable sources.

RaspberryPI looks cool, but, I'm liking Arduino a bit more as you can build components with it.

I wish the US would adopt the Canadian Nuclear plant design. Control rods are powered by the grid in the US, so, a failure of the grid for whatever reason means our control rods have to be lowered with batteries that are on-site. In Canada, the control rods are held by electromagnets, so, in the event of a power failure for whatever reason, the control rods instantly scram the reactor. Florida Power and Light did get approval for two more plants at each of the two existing nuclear sites in Florida, but, I think with the growth down here, nuclear is only going to be 30% and we appear to be pushing natural gas and combined cycle plants. They just got approval to demolish a coal plant in Fort Lauderdale and we got rid of our bunker-C plant in Palm beach - though, they only burned the black smoke producing oil at night when you couldn't tell what color the smoke was.

Afternoon. Had an insane sinus headache all of yesterday. Battled through it. This morning though I was suppose to play golf with a friend. Instead just slept in and then just went and hung out with him while watching golf at his place. I did also update his router to a new firmware and that helped his internet in a major way. Went from a download speed of .17 Mbps to 22Mbps on speedtest.net. He's a happy camper now. His wife is going to be happy too. As her kindle fire will work now.

lol. That's awesome. I had to go reread what you wrote to see why it looked the way it did.

Now it's just a lot of cleaning around the house and office as we get ready to have a guest for the week.

Have a good one.

Just got in from bicycle riding at Everglades Shark Valley. Not sure why it is named that since it is all swamp and shallow fresh water but it was full of alligators, birds, turtles and other animals and since it is protected park land with no hunting allowed all the animals will let you get within a few feet of them.

Took a bunch of great pics and now going out for sushi.
