At the shift change one of the departing nurses was telling a new nurse about the patients. I overheard her saying about me "This is Paul, he is one of the good patients." I thought "I guess she was not on duty the other night when I was threatening to smash the leg off a chair and beat the shit out of the surgeons."

In my own defence I should point out that this was after they had cancelled my operation two days running. So I had been "nill by mouth" for 48 hours, having only been given 2 sandwiches to eat in two days, and only a couple of hours where I was allowed to drink. It had also gone midnight so I was tired. Then they told me I would have to go another day without food or drink, with still no guarantee of an operation.

That was when I lost it!
