It is seriously hot all over the Northern Hemisphere, not just Canada and the US. One of the warmest temperatures this week was recorded in far far north Finland. This is so very rares.

"Extreme heat in the Arctic Finland," FMI researcher Mika Rantanen tweeted on Monday afternoon," Utsjoki Kevo just recorded 33.5°C (92.3°F), which is not only the station's new all-time heat record, but also the highest reliably measured temperature ever in the whole Finnish Lapland."

The crops in trouble are mainly peas and beans so it really represents a loss to the farmers but no real food shortages. They will simply import from other areas to make up the loss. We grow a lot of rapeseed in this area, similar to canola. It grows well here because it doesn't do well in the heat. June was exceptionally hot, and July is looking to be the same. I think the oilseed farmers will be looking for new crops soon.
