Flash on Firefox

A few months ago I had to install Firefox, because since I got a faster connection IE refuses to open some pages (including, ironically, Hotmail, which is a Microsoft website). I rarely use Flash and when I was on a slow ISP I found that Flash made page downloading very slow indeed, so I never bothered adding Flash to Firefox, just used IE on the rare occasions I needed Flash. However yesterday I got a link to a page with a Flash game on it that I wanted to try, but that was one of the pages that IE refused to open, so I decided to install Flash on Firefox.

How the fuck do you do this thing?

I tried clicking on one of those "Click here to download plugin" links that appear wherever a Flash banner should appear. I got a box that told me that Flash was unavailable to download for Firefox. I clicked on "Manual install" and got sent to:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
which has a link to install Flash for Firefox, Safari, and Opera. Clicking on that link gets me to:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/tha...Other_Browsers
which gives the standard message "Your download will start automatically. If it does not start, click here to download". It does not start so I click the link and get a standard download box that appears to download a file called "install_flash_player.exe" then disappears (I am used to IE file downloads that give you the choice of opening the file once downloaded, this does not). So I do a search on my drive for "install_flash_player.exe", neither the search folder nor the search in the start menu can find it. According to Firefox's download history I have (from trying to download the file three times) downloaded "install_flash_player.exe", "install_flash_player.exe(2)", and "install_flash_player.exe(3)", but Windows tells me that none exist on my hard drive.

I have now given up, does anyone know what I am doing wrong, or does Firefox just hate me?

Thanks. Guess I ain't too bright because trying that is kind of an obvious thing to do, and I didn't think of it.
