That's an interesting point, and one that I've been thinking about for quite a while. I'm coming to the conclusion that we aren't trying to sell porn, or we would link to the join page. What we are "selling" is the paysite tour, and it's the tour's job to sell the porn. It's a fine difference, but it could explain why text links work so well.
