Second off, I am going to ask you the ultimate newbie question.
Where exactly am I checking these stats?
My sponsor stats only show my own refering pages, and I am not supposed to be running a counter on the free web sites.
What am I doing wrong?

He is saying to check your stats on your server, your host should provide some kind of stats. AwStats is one of the better ones and shows more referering urls.
