You can do as Trev said above but for future reference...

In DW, from the menu, select "Edit" then select "Perferences". In the window that opens highlight "New Document" and under "Default extension" there should be more info about how to change the default extension permanently.

It's probably easier to just follow Trev's instructions though...

I don't use editors but you can type any extension you like htm html shtml dhtml etc simple and easy in notepad.
