Smile question about script on FS

So i was playing with dreamweaver and found this function to change pics on mouse roll over ( ok i know i'm newbie )
the site looks much better with this function. but it inserts scipt on FS.
So i did removed it when i was submiting this FS to link lists.

My question is: can i use this function on FS or not, and how many Link lists would decline me?
Is it ok to use this kind of script on FS?

Which part of "no Java" do you not understand? Is it the "no" or the "Java" that is causing the confusion?

Add all of the gimmicky shit to your hubs and leave your free sites alone.

BTW, search Google for "java rollover" and you'll find much lighter scripts that will do the same thing. Just don't put it on your free sites.

In my opinion link lists should at least allow java code from counters like Google analytics, there's no risk.
Or allow java for trusted submitters.

Some places allow java for certain things, like honest onmousovers, but image rollovers are generally a no no.

Personally, in no way do I consider using scripts called from a third party a no risk. It's a calculated risk at best.

Yeah sure but the risk of getting your server hijacked is higher than Google fucking up.

And anyway, I can only imagine the arguments that would follow being lax on that issue. Making it explicitly clear that only one company's java tracking system, and no other is allowed seems like a perfect way to add many hours of time to any reviewer's schedule.

What would you use a third party counter system do for you anyway, but serve as a traffic leak? A check of simple server stats every so often gives me all the info I need.

Just for the record guys, it's JavaScript you are talking here. It executes on the client computer (Java is a server scripting language and executes on the server).

Hi, I'v allready asked in other tread but have no response:
What about some home made php counter into a image like this <"img src=some_img.php>"?, can it pass the no scripts or counters rule?
It has no client execution and can give very acurate and custom stats.

Actually... Java isnt executed server side unless youre talking about Java Servelets ( which still might actually be run locally..? not real familiar w/ JSP ), and it's not a scripting language either. It's compiled and then run locally by JVM.

And Bishop, I think as long as you keep it really lightweight, and don't allow your functions to echo back errors ( @function() ) you should be ok.

QuickDraw, thanks for correcting my post! Yes I was reffering to JSP (or Java Server Pages there).

About the JavaScript in the free sites, I don't see its use. If you want to make rollovers, CSS can be used as Maj. Stress said before.

@BishopWeber : I was thinking to make some kind of counter like that, too. That was happening when I used sponsor hosting and didn't had any stats from the web server. But I have paid hosting now with all the stats I want, and there is no need for "tricks"
