I make mine myself and it probably shows. I've thought about having a professional designer make some graphics for me, but after a few hours sweating over PS I'm usually able come up with something passable. Cool graphics are nice, but I don't think they necessarily sell a site.

But I know webmasters with ugly looking sites that sell just as well... maybe even better, because they spend all their time on more important things.  I do stuff myself because I'm not willing to pay someone else to do it.
