It's the only thing that makes sense to my pee-sized brain Like I said, nothing else has ever had problem in the house & I have my radio/satellite plugged into the same plug that the batter back up is plugged into.

MML just told me that the motherboard & processor were under warranty, so they're sending me new ones (which will become backups) next week.

Yea, it's a possibility...just not something I've run across. Then again, not a lot of people even use a UPS...though I wouldn't be without one.

But, I'd also be inclined to ask them to actually test the power supply and make sure it's consistent in powering the system. If the power supply itself is surging, that could also be the root of what cooked the mobo/proc.

This is the 3rd (maybe 4th) system that's had the same problem & the only common denominator is the (old) battery backup.

The one you gave me you remember, had a bad power supply. What caused the power supply to be bad, who knows?

Ah, well that's sounding more and more like some external force is cooking things. Given the circumstances, think I'd replace the UPS and the power supply too. The UPS is a bit pricey, but power supplies are pretty cheap. You definitely don't wanna roast any more parts.

I got a new one of those as well - that was the 1st thing we tried to fix

I've got a small surge protector that has a 30 minute battery in it - all I need is 15 seconds of back-up power, as the generator kicks on 10 seconds after the electricity goes out.

My fingers are crossed

Make sure that power supply isnt one of those 240 or 300 jobs - got to get a lot more power available to keep it from burning up stuff when you put a big load on power supply - if youre running dual processors at least a good 700w works great LOL
