Don't you just love seeing "Gonzy the Weasel" squirm on TV?
CNN's Jack Cafferty said the other day, when you look up "weasel" in the dictionary, now you find a picture of our US Attorney General, Chief Porno Inspector Gonzales...
I just love seeing Gonzy the Weasel wiggle on the tube trying to avoid getting blamed for the politically motivated firing of a bunch of federal prosecutors. Looks like one of the prosecutors was fired in an attempt to keep Jack Abramson from being indicted, too. I hope this continues to blow up. |

I do like to see any Republican squirm but, any President does have a right to fire all federal prosecutors. It sucks but does happen.
Didn't Janet Reno fire all of them when Clinton was in office? |

Jim, who the President can hire or fire is not the issue, they did target, this is the word used in emails from Gonzos chief of staff to Harriet the cleaning lady 8 lawyers and said You suck and your not doing your job, so your fired when they all have high reviews in their records.
Then you look at who the 8 are and who they pissed off and then it all makes sense. Enforcing laws is never supposed to be politically motivated, and all evidence is showing that the purge did in fact fire 8 lawyers for political reasons only. |

NO! Im not a female - but being a dragon, I do eat them.

Jim - you are actually correct - most presidents fire all of their federal prosecuters when they come into office as a routine thing - since those are usually political assignments
The difference here is those were prosecuters werent old holdovers - they were just doing their job and it was well on its way to a big emabarrasment - if not leading to some pretty hefty prosecutions that they didnt want to happen So yeah - youll hear the pundits say - well Clinton fired all of his when he came to office - trying to divert the subject - since all presidents do that when they take office ![]() |

Actually, no one is fired in transitions of administrations, they all resign to save face from being fired, and if they do not get their jobs back no one looks bad, which is the point of the tradition, to keep the POTUS from looking bad.
Linda Tripp was fired since she thought she did the GOP a huge favor and refused to resign since she thought she was owed a job from the GOP so she sued and lost. I think these 8 lawyers will be a start of something bigger. A friend of mine sent me a link this morning, said 2 of those 8 that was fired refused to bring obscenity charges in the battle against pornography which I find interesting. |

AVN said this:
"WASHINGTON - In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee today, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales confirmed that the United States Attorney for the District of Nevada, Daniel Bogden, was fired for failing to bring any obscenity cases, although pressured to do so by Brent Ward, head of the Justice Department's Obscenity Prosecution Task Force. Under questioning from Sen. Sam Brownback, the administration's main congressional proponent for destruction of the adult industry, Gonzales answered a query about the reasons for Bogden's firing that there were concerns about "the energy in [Bogden's] department in this fast-growing district" and about the lack of any obscenity prosecutions. No other reasons were given for Bogden's firing, and Brownback repeated the "obscenity" justification in his summary at the end of his allotted time for questions. And since the entire purpose of the Judiciary Committee's investigation is to find out whether eight U.S. Attorneys (USAs) from various districts around the country were fired for "political reasons," it would seem that Gonzales' statement has just made their case for them, since few policies have been more politically charged in the Bush administration than advancing the religious right's obsession with stamping out all forms of sexually explicit expression. The President is not elected dictator or emperor but President. He is supposed to do what is best for the country and not himself. This is a pretty clear case of him focusing on himself and ignoring the country. Just because it's legal doesn't make it ethical. Wasn't this the guy that was going to bring integrity back? |

The funny thing is, Bill, that the district that he covers includes Nye county which has all the LEGAL brothals. And I wonder if it isn't an interference in states rights (one of the FOUNDING platforms of the GOP) for him or anyone on the federal level to go after them??
Maybe Gonzy wanted him to go after the showgirls at Bally's for going topless. ![]() |
