thanks for the link cleo, the reboot is what caused the kernel panic to be found in the first place. i thought it was just a dns issue before that LOL
the weird thing is that i have done nothing to the server (especially not the kernel) ever - either the file structure got fucked up somehow or its a hardware issue. we shall see
