Wow, thanks for the advice, you just saved me a lot of money. Any advice on places to advertise that I can make at least a 25% profit off affiliate ads or is this just a holy grail and I need to just work on the SEO aspect?

Buying adverts or traffic isn't always about making quick conversions. Think long term. Build a site worth bookmarking; direct some traffic to it and don't be disappointed if you don't make any trackable sales from the purchased traffic. That movement of traffic into your site should gain dividends in the future if you have people crawling back for more. If you do make a sale from purchased traffic then invest that money in more traffic.
