I too am intrigued by fusion. I had thought that fission was just a precursor to fusion. My concern is that big energy sources get somewhat institutionalized, like oil. It becomes very hard to progress to a better alternative, usually because of big financial stakes in the status quo. Oligopolies and monopolies have a way of digging in and become extremely resistant to change.
