Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!
|
Is "shemale" a derogatory term?
I would have guessed no, but according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shemale, it is. What do you guys think? I guess it's all about who's paying, and not who's starring.

Hmmm… I am shooting shemales this evening…
My shemale friends (see FoxyAngel in sig) are perfectly happy with the label shemale but then again they make their living off of being in porn or escorting. They like the label tranny less and really dislike the label heshe but the worst thing you can do is refer to them as males. If you want to be really politicly correct and not also offend others who may be in some part of transition but not making their living off of being shemales then Tgirl is probably your best bet with transgendered being a close second. |

Life is good

Of course not. Everyone uses it and has catorgies for it.

But just because everyone uses it doesn't mean trannies are happy about it. People will call women dumb whores on their sites if it sells, and I'd say those would be pretty derogatory words.
Wikipedia can't be wrong... can it? So much for truthiness... |

That which does not kill us, will try, try again.
|
There is The Real World, and then there is The Porn World.
Shemales, ladyboys, trannies are mostly for porn use, unless you're really good friends with the Tgirl you're talking with, or unless someone asks you to refer to them that way. Kinds of like how some folks call women bitches, cunts and sluts when writing free site descriptions. Not always the best way to refer to them in the real world.

Um, anyone can add stuff to Wikipedia, and people with a 'agenda' often do. For example, say I don't get my free sites listed on LOR, I could place an entry in Wikipedia as "a link site famous for broken links, and for redirecting traffic directly to it's sponsors. The original domain name was stolen from a charity and the site promotes bestiality and child pornography". I'm pretty sure none of that is true, but there is nothing to stop me putting that entry in Wikipedia (apart from the fact that GG is bigger than me and lives in a country where it is legal to own a gun).

I believe the majority of "transgender" porn is sold to *curious* individuals who are doing it for fun, curious about them in general, or who find them attractive, but would never actually consider having sex with them.
For those people, they don't look for the correct term much, and instead look for common terms associated with it....shemale, tranny, ladyboy etc.

Oddly enough, you do bring up a good point. Do you think they prefer "shemale" over such lovely paysite titles as Chicks With Dicks, Sluts With Cocks, Sluts With Big Nuts, Dicksy Chicks, and Nuts On Sluts?

So I guess you could call them pre-cunts then.
I still have to sometimes hide after Angel reads some of my sales text but then I remind the penis lady about all the money she is making and that it was her idea to stick a dwarf in a suitcase and then fuck him in the ass. |

He had already exploded the day before when Angel did him on my neighbor's boat so we took him into the backyard and stuck a garden hose up his ass so that he would be a properly douched dwarf for the remainder of the shoots.

To get back on subject here for a second:
From the people that run transsexual.org a Q&A session: Q:We are a British-based TV production company. We are very interested in producing a documentary on shemales for the UK. Would you be interested in helping us to locate some subjects for the documentary, or being interviewed on transsexuality? A: Hmmm, this is a little twisty. Let me explain. Although we ostensibly both speak English, I know there are differences in usage between Great Britain and the US. In American english, 'Shemale' is a bit of a problem. Here, a 'shemale' is equivalent to the proper definition of 'transgenderist', a person who uses hormones to partially transition, but who has no interest in being completely female. Instead, the 'shemale' enjoys a unique status, posessing the complete appearance and life of a woman, but the sexual organs of a male. This uniqueness is usually associated with prostitution as a career option, and the unsavory illegalities partnered to it. Transsexuals, by and large, find this to be problematic for a number of reasons. One, they do not like to be associated conceptually by the public with shemales, because most transsexuals are trying desperately to integrate seamlessly into society and a culturally functional life. Such a mental association causes as much grief as does the common misconception of transvestites and transsexuals as being the same thing. This cultural confusion of definitions causes often serious problems for the majority of transsexuals, and thus there exists a certain amount of uncomfortableness and even disdain towards the shemale and transvestite both. Indeed, the very term 'shemale' originated from within the sex industry, and -at least in American culture- is utterly and exclusively indicative of it. This is a stigma that the vast majority of transsexuals, ever struggling for mainstream acceptance, would find not merely a detriment, but a decided insult. While a small number of transsexuals are drawn to the sex industry for various reasons, they are the fringe, if an over documented fringe. Even there, few transsexuals would want to be considered 'shemales', at least within American culture. So, I am not sure if we have a misunderstanding here, with regard to language. I am knowledgeable about transsexual issues, from a transsexual perspective, but that perspective would have little or no connection with the life of the 'shemale' as the word is defined here From http://transsexual.org/letters4.html |

I guess the best way then to tell if the person is a shemale or a transsexual is to ask them if they have a dwarf in a suitcase fetish or not.
