Hosted Gallery Mgmt. - "Fake" tgp soft

OK I am putting the finishing touches on my new Hosted Gallery Mgmt software that will allow you to load up a bunch of Galleries in the software and it will rotate the galleries on your tgp. Right now the admin is about 99% finished and will hopefully be finished tomorrow.

You can add new galleries, add sponsors and niches and can sort your galleries by sponsor so you can find them a little easier (in case someone goes under).

What type of other features would you like in a hosted gallery mgmt software? I am making it all template based so you should be able to just make it generate a static html and include it into your existing designs , but basically this would allow you to run your entire "fake" tgp. Just set a cron to rebuild the templates at your intervals and it will pull the galleries out randomly and insert into your template. I will be looking for 1-2 people to help me beta test this when I am done within the next couple days and I am wondering what features would you look for in something like this?

EDIT: Almost forgot you can upload your own thumb for the gallery or have it pull all the thumbs from the gallery let you choose the thumb and then you can crop it how you wish and even add text to the thumbnail. Just another feature for those of you who run Thumb TGP's this way.

Weighting so that you could make certain galleries or classes of galleries appear at the tops of any lists generated.

The ability to create pages with descriptions for the galleries. (some scripts just let you insert a generic category description)

Well yes what Bill said is good. A simple php script draws galleries from a text file but no description as it's random. Some scripts allow you to import galleries with a decription already in place so that feature is nice.

Auto updating though is something that would be great. I go away for 4 days and the script updates at a certain time pulling a new set of galleries for that update. (With descriptions too?)

As far as the weighting I actually thought about that last night. I will try to add that in today.

Not exactly sure what you guys mean by descriptions, do you want random descriptions, maybe put a random description in if a specific description for the gallery doesn't exist?

Right now the box when adding a gallery allows you to upload a thumb (if you made one). Add a description, add the url, choose the niche and sponsor and then if you didnt upload a thumb you can click manual thumb and create the thumb through the interface, with cropping adding text to the image etc.

Let me know what you want for the descriptions (random if not exists or just use the one you put in).

I am going to work on a mass import as well. The problem with mass import is the thumbnails and their names. But I guess I could rename the old thumbnails on the fly to the new thumb name, that wouldnt be hard

(Just thinking out loud).

How do you want the weights to be handled? By sponsor? By gallery or by niche? Also do you see the need to inactivate sponsors ? Maybe when you de-activate a sponsor all of the galleries for that sponsor would not be active?

As far as beta, If enough of you are interested in it, maybe I will just fix any minor bugs I see and release it at a discounted price so it gets out there and I get more bug fixes faster. Again just thinking out loud, give me your suggestions and I will make it happen.

Well, the primary goal of weighting would be the ability to put my handbuilt galleries above sponsor galleries in any list that came up, to maximise sales and to keep the listing looking fresh by pushing sponsor galleries down a bit. (By now most surfers have seen sponsor galleries, they have a "look", no reason to let low converting sponsor gals hog the top spots.) So a weighting of 1 to 10 should do, just enough to arrange for sponsorgals to be kept to the bottoms of any listing.

As for descrips, what I'd like is the ability to have a linked 40 character description display for each gallery, with perhaps an option to have a shorter 20 character descrip. Descrips make the links more clickable and more appealing to the SEs. Maybe compromise and have a 25 character descrip capability, thats a common length.

I already added the weighting feature as well as disabling and enabling the gallery. When you disable/enable a sponsor all of their hosted galleries will be enable / disabled as well.

I am going to work on the display script and we should be ready to launch into beta tonight or tomorrow.

Can't wait to see this ! I just bought atoscripts gallery manager, but this sounds excellent. Another thing you might want to look at putting in is a way to track the most clicked thumbs or galleries, so they stay near the top. Kind of like a Hall of Fame.

I thought about that as well but that will probably be next release for that. I have just a couple more things to do which hopefully will be done Monday/Tuesday at the latest. I will definitely keep everyone posted when its out.

OK i need 1 possibly 2 more beta testers for the Hosted Gallery Mgmt software. Remember this will be beta, so dont throw it on an existing site (just incase, even though I dont think there will be problems).
