Sleepy Twas The Day Before The Day Before The Day Before The Day Before The Night Before Santa's Birthday..

Morning!

My mood today is kinda but I'll take that over or or or any of the other ones I've had in the past few weeks

I do have to get over to the chiropractor this morning, then stop & get The Bitch a Xmas card, so my morning is going to be eventful!

I'll see all of you later... after my nap

Good morning world

Glad to hear you're back to today Greenie

I'm typing this standing up, since I got a wild hair last night to just make my own standing desk to see how much I like them before buying one.

The pic below shows my first attempt. Old roll-around sit-down desk that already had a higher desktop on one side. Turned it around to make that side the front. Stacked eight thin but large format art books to raise the monitor. Six murder mysteries to raise the keyboard. One large fishing reference book under the mouse pad. MacBook Pro is second screen. Cell phone holder and place for coffee mug and tv/audio remote.

Did a lot of bending and crawling to get everything hooked up last night, so it'll be a few days before I know how it feels without any residual aches and pains. So far I know there needs to be a nice padded something under my bare feet. And I do sit down for phone calls, some texts, paper note making.

Wishing a good day to all.

P.S. Bonus points if you spotted the bungee cord plus thin rope tie-downs to keep the monitor from being able to fall backwards.

Wife picked up a padded floor mat from BB&B that goes in front of the sink for my feet when doing an hours worth of Sunday night dinner dishes that would probably work. Bar stool or similar height office chair works great with stand up desk. Makes it easy for a quick rest of the feet/break from standing so you can bounce back and forth.

No chiropractors, no books under monitor, don't feel like crap, staving... Getting blood sucked at 11am.

Wanted to sleep in since I can't eat this morning but our cats decided to start playing at sunrise.

At least I turned it into a productive morning and created this poster that gets printed today.

NEED FOOD!!!

OK, so every year I try to get in the Christmas mood, I really do. I put up decorations, drink expensive port, and generally try to be happy and smiley at the made up birthday of Jesus Christ. And I usually succeed for a while..........Then Christmas shopping starts. Yesterday was OK, as it involved some online shopping and a short reconnaissance mission to an electrical store to see what sort of prices blu ray players go for. But today I started the serious "going to real shops and getting throughly pissed off" work. This year I sank to a new low. Toys R Us. I don't know if it is the same in the US but the staff in my local Toys R Us are genuinely the biggest waste of oxygen I have ever been "served" by. I spoke to four staff while looking for presents for my niece and nephew. They knew nothing and cared even less. I am not exaggerating when I say; in the days when I used to run my own shops, if they had been working for me I would have fired three of them on the spot, and given the fourth a serious warning.

What you were on "Nil by mouth" and you decided to work on an advert for food? What are you, a masochist?

There ain't enough in the world to make me work standing up. At film school I was told that the best film editors remain standing while working. Decided then and there to never edit my own movies!

Looking at a big burnt hunk of dead cow flesh will pretty much kill any desire for me to eat, but the donuts at the doctor's office was cruel.

Just got back from the doctor. Found out that under Obamacare I no longer have a copay for physicals.

Night. So this week saw the launch of a program I've been working on for a year. Worked with a MS SQL wizard to build a export file into xml. Last sunday I stuffed things in after a couple tests and verification items with the client. All checked out. This week has just been monitoring and making changes here and there they hadn't thought of before. Seriously feels so good to be at this point.

So much insane hours of work have paid off. Best part is now as they get more n more into my system they need me. muahahah.

Tonight I finally got a little time to myself. Felt good. Friend is in town as well so it's been nice to hang with her too.

Time to crash now.

SWEET!! I know that our monthly payments are going up about $50-60 each, but our copays go from $20 to $10, scripts from $7 $10 $50 to $4 $7 $30, and we get a card that's loaded with $250 "insurance" dollars that can be used for copays & scripts. So while it's a little more each month, we'll end up saving a bundle each year

Well, besides the fact that Thomas Jefferson, Leonardo Da Vinci, Ben Franklin and Winston Churchill used them everyday, some studies have shown that if you sit down for the majority of the day you're 54% more likely to die of a heart attack. Also to develop diabetes and blood clots or thrombosis. Basically people who stand more during the day live longer. There's also some talk about increased productivity, higher energy levels and better concentration.

A good standing desk can be expensive, unless you have woodworking skills. So I'm trying to get an idea of how it feels to work at one before taking a more permanent step.

Yeah, but just standing don't help, you have to do exercise! Standing in front of the desk and doing a "standing still" job will kill you as fast as sitting!

You want to live longer, give up the computer and get a job on a building site, or digging roads, or some similar activity.

At some point you may want to try what most standup desk user are doing (me too), and that's to have a sit/stand combo desk. That way you can do 4-5 minutes standing then sit for awhile.

For me, just starting with standing, I can do about 20 minutes comfortably before my feet, back and legs start to ache and it's time to hit the chair for some work at the sitting desk. I'm thinking the 20 minute period will get longer.

I agree. What I've noticed so far is that I move around a lot while I'm standing up. The only time I stand still is when I'm thinking and typing at the same time. Phone calls start on my feet so I walk and talk. Also, you can barely see it in the foreground of the photo, but that black diagonal is my treadmill's elevated track right next to the standup desk. I do a few minutes at a time all day long.

I did pull over a bar stool to give my feet, lower legs and back a short break when I don't want to sit down yet. And I'm now standing on a padded lounge pad (which pad I took off the shelf and put on the floor, I'm not standing on a padded lounge). A single layer is good for just standing there, and if I fold the pad in half to double it, it gets soft enough to walk into while standing there.

Okay, that's my "How's it going with that standing desk thing you were doing?" update for today.

No. Management software for law firms. Now have some time to begin working on finally cleaning up what is left of my adult projects. Have let so many domains go in the past year.

I had something in the works a year and half ago. However, this project came along and it was money right away that I needed. The adult project wasn't. I still think about trying again though for something. I think in this market he would go for the idea I have. Just an issue of time though.
