SWEET!! I know that our monthly payments are going up about $50-60 each, but our copays go from $20 to $10, scripts from $7 $10 $50 to $4 $7 $30, and we get a card that's loaded with $250 "insurance" dollars that can be used for copays & scripts. So while it's a little more each month, we'll end up saving a bundle each year

Well, besides the fact that Thomas Jefferson, Leonardo Da Vinci, Ben Franklin and Winston Churchill used them everyday, some studies have shown that if you sit down for the majority of the day you're 54% more likely to die of a heart attack. Also to develop diabetes and blood clots or thrombosis. Basically people who stand more during the day live longer. There's also some talk about increased productivity, higher energy levels and better concentration.

A good standing desk can be expensive, unless you have woodworking skills. So I'm trying to get an idea of how it feels to work at one before taking a more permanent step.

Yeah, but just standing don't help, you have to do exercise! Standing in front of the desk and doing a "standing still" job will kill you as fast as sitting!

You want to live longer, give up the computer and get a job on a building site, or digging roads, or some similar activity.

At some point you may want to try what most standup desk user are doing (me too), and that's to have a sit/stand combo desk. That way you can do 4-5 minutes standing then sit for awhile.

For me, just starting with standing, I can do about 20 minutes comfortably before my feet, back and legs start to ache and it's time to hit the chair for some work at the sitting desk. I'm thinking the 20 minute period will get longer.

I agree. What I've noticed so far is that I move around a lot while I'm standing up. The only time I stand still is when I'm thinking and typing at the same time. Phone calls start on my feet so I walk and talk. Also, you can barely see it in the foreground of the photo, but that black diagonal is my treadmill's elevated track right next to the standup desk. I do a few minutes at a time all day long.

I did pull over a bar stool to give my feet, lower legs and back a short break when I don't want to sit down yet. And I'm now standing on a padded lounge pad (which pad I took off the shelf and put on the floor, I'm not standing on a padded lounge). A single layer is good for just standing there, and if I fold the pad in half to double it, it gets soft enough to walk into while standing there.

Okay, that's my "How's it going with that standing desk thing you were doing?" update for today.

Just to clarify, after about 10 minutes of sitting I'm good for at least another 20 minutes of standing work. And yesterday those standing segments were getting longer, but I'm still taking it slow as suggested.

No. Management software for law firms. Now have some time to begin working on finally cleaning up what is left of my adult projects. Have let so many domains go in the past year.

I had something in the works a year and half ago. However, this project came along and it was money right away that I needed. The adult project wasn't. I still think about trying again though for something. I think in this market he would go for the idea I have. Just an issue of time though.
