Try almost anything by Pete Walker. He is a little known British producer/director best known for 70s horror movies. He started off making short stag films on 8mm in the 60s, then sold the firm to finance his first feature. He started off with full length soft porn before moving onto horror and drama. His films often try to be both "populist" and "meaningful", and surprisingly this works! The guy is a genius with a small following, but unfortunately gave up film making after his 1983 film "The House Of Long Shadows" and went into property. He now runs (and owns) a chain of movie theatres in old style (large single screen cinemas with balcony, not multiplexes).
