Ramster.. you were going UP central park.. LMAO.. and even on the toniest of avenues like Park, you'll see homeless laying on steam grates, or sleeping in boxes.. i guess if you are going to be homeless might as well have a good address.

A lot of people when they go to the city, stay in mid town. .but really you need to get out in the neighborhoods, the village, soho, Little Italy, upper west side, Chelsea, to get the real flavor of NY. and most everyone who lives there is more than willing to help out. Police are on horseback, scooters, and cars.

I mean you have to be aware of your surroundings.. I'd never walk thru central park at night.. and IF i was a tourist on a visit, i'd avoid the subway at rush hour.. and if you are on the subway..ignore all the "vets, starving artists and crippled" passing thru looking for money.. they probably live better than any of us.

and just know that you never have to worry about crossing a street cuz if you hesitate.. the crowd will carry you across.
